How to use it
- Set Date and time. It starts at the current time in your own zone; Now resets it.
- Type the zone the time belongs to in From zone or city. It accepts an IANA name such as
America/New_York, one of about 140 city names such asMumbai(case, spaces and accents don’t matter, sonew_yorkandSao Paulowork), a common abbreviation such asEST, or a fixed offset such asUTC-05:00. It starts as your own zone. - Under See it in other zones, type a zone or city into each row. Add a zone adds a row, up to 10, and Remove drops one.
The answer line shows the source time with its weekday, UTC offset, abbreviation and whether daylight saving is on, then the same instant in UTC (ISO 8601) and how far it is from now. Notes under it say how an abbreviation was read or a daylight-saving gap resolved. Each row shows the local time there, the weekday, next day or previous day when the date changes, the offset and abbreviation, and DST when daylight saving is in effect. Copy times copies one line per zone.
Examples
A 9:00 meeting in New York on Friday, March 20, 2026, copied with Copy times:
2026-03-20 09:00 America/New_York (UTC-04:00, EDT)
2026-03-20 13:00 Europe/London (UTC+00:00, GMT)
2026-03-20 14:00 Europe/Warsaw (UTC+01:00, CET)
2026-03-20 18:30 Asia/Kolkata (UTC+05:30, IST)
2026-03-20 22:00 Asia/Tokyo (UTC+09:00, JST)
London is 4 hours ahead, not the usual 5: the US moved its clocks forward on March 8, and the UK waits until March 29.
Late evening in Los Angeles, 2026-06-10 23:30, crosses the date line for two of three rows:
Sydney 2026-06-11 16:30 Thursday next day UTC+10:00 AEST
Kathmandu 2026-06-11 12:15 Thursday next day UTC+05:45
Honolulu 2026-06-10 20:30 Wednesday UTC-10:00 HST
Sydney shows no DST in June because it’s winter there.
Abbreviations are read as places. 2026-07-15 12:00 from EST, with rows BST and UTC-05:00, is 12:00 EDT in America/New_York, 17:00 BST in Europe/London and 11:00 at the fixed UTC-05:00, with two notes:
EST read as America/New_York (Eastern Standard Time), which is on EDT, UTC-04:00, at this time. For a fixed UTC-05:00, type UTC-05:00.
BST read as Europe/London (British Summer Time), which switches to GMT in winter. BST is also Bangladesh Standard Time: type Asia/Dhaka for that.
A date that doesn’t exist, 2026-02-30T09:00, is rejected with February 2026 has 28 days, so 30 isn't one of them.
Good to know
- Abbreviations are read from a table, never guessed. About 50 common ones are read as the zone most people mean (
ISTasAsia/Kolkata,CETasEurope/Brussels), and the note names the other meanings. Read as a place,ESTfollows New York onto EDT in summer, unlike the tz database’s ownEST, a fixed UTC−05:00. Other short names, likeECT, are rejected rather than read the browser’s way. - Fixed offsets count east as plus.
UTC-05:00,GMT-5and-05:00are all five hours behind UTC and ignore daylight saving. The tz nameEtc/GMT+5is the same offset with the sign flipped, a POSIX convention. - Daylight saving starts on different dates. The US changes on the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November, the EU on the last Sundays of March and October, so New York and Europe are an hour closer for about three weeks in spring and one in fall. Sydney’s daylight saving runs from October to April.
- Gaps and repeats are resolved with a note.
2026-03-08 02:30doesn’t exist in New York and reads as03:30EDT, the far side of the gap.2026-11-01 01:30happens twice there; the tool takes the first, still on EDT (05:30Z). - Not every offset is whole hours. India is UTC+05:30, Nepal UTC+05:45 and Newfoundland UTC−03:30, or −02:30 in summer.
- The rules come from your browser. Offsets, and the abbreviations in the results, come from the browser’s
Intltime zone data. What you type is read by the tool itself, soBSTmeans London in every browser. - Times are to the minute. The relative time rounds to the nearest whole unit, counting calendar months and years.
Questions
How do I convert EST to CET?
Add 6 hours: EST is UTC−05:00 and CET is UTC+01:00, so 9:00 EST is 15:00 CET. New York and Berlin, though, are 5 hours apart for a few weeks in March and around the end of October. Enter EST and CET, which the tool reads as New York and Brussels time, to get the right gap for the date.
How do I schedule a meeting across time zones?
Enter the time in the organizer’s zone and add a row for each attendee’s city. Check the next day and previous day labels, and the weeks around the March and October changeovers for a weekly meeting.
Is GMT the same as UTC?
For scheduling, yes: both are offset +00:00, and the ISO line under the answer is the instant in UTC. UTC is the standard kept by atomic clocks; GMT is also the name of the UK’s winter time. In summer London is on BST, UTC+01:00, so Europe/London and UTC differ by an hour from late March to late October. Typed in the tool, GMT is the fixed +00:00, with a note pointing to Europe/London for UK time.
